I did a thing a few weeks back. I commissioned artwork for the Firebird Series. Part of it was because I wanted to create giveaways for Dragon Con later this year. A conversation I saw on the book community made me realize that the covers for the Firebird Series aren’t an accurate representation of Kira . I’ve always been okay with that because a cover’s primary job is to generate enough interest so that the reader is willing to peruse the blurb which then lures them to the sample which hopefully sales them the book. That’s marketing 101.
The current covers do a great job of getting people to pick up my book. But, I thought the conference might be a good opportunity to create something fans of the series would love. Also, I’m a sucker for artwork in general and this was something I’ve been wanting to do for one of my series for a long time.
You can find the artist on Instagram here. She did such a great job on the illustration and was super easy to work with. I will definitely use her again in the future.
Not going to lie. I may have spent more time than I should have staring at my phone to admire what she created. It’s sooo pretty. You’ve been warned. You may lose productivity looking at this.
Also, before anyone asks, let me just say that I have no intention of redoing the current covers for the series at this point in time. Please do not message me begging me to. I actually love the original covers just as much as I do the new artwork. It would also be prohibitively expensive to redo what I already have. Not to mention the time and effort it would take. I have too much on my plate as it is.

I didn’t notice the markings!!!! That is so awesome!!!!! Gotta say I love the art. I always try to picture. Them in my mind, and this will be the Kira I see from now on. Can’t wait to see Graydon!

So I love that this is NOT one of the portraits, where a woman kicking ass on a daily basis looks like she is trying to win the title of most breakable female ever. I hate that contradiction. If someone trains that much, they will have some muscle, otherwise known as not whip thin. This Kira looks like she is able to run through a forest and fight trees without breaking down after the first three minutes. And look at that – she is still beautiful! Thanks for this artwork.
