Two Paths
To my relief, people seemed to enjoy spending time in Gus’s head. I guess that means the short story is a go. Good thing because I’ve already written three chapters and have a vague idea of what direction her story will take.
The change in perspective did exactly as I’d hoped and gave me a glimpse into the ending for Firebird 6. A re-read of the first draft also reminded me of all those pesky loose threads that still need to be tied up. Now I simply have to finish what I started.
I was due to start the second draft of Firebird 6 July 1st but took the last week and the one before to hammer out some of Gus’s narrative. As per usual, I never do things the easy way and am now finding myself both wanting to finish Gus’s story–and Kira’s. At the same time.
It’s going to be interesting to see how I manage this.
At the moment the plan is to release Firebird 6 later this year. Before you ask–I do not have an eta as to when it will publish. That will not be on my radar until the second draft is fully done. Until then, too many things can impact the schedule. Including–extensive rewrites of the current narrative. I don’t think that will be necessary but seemingly small, innocuous decisions early on in the narrative can sometimes mean enormous, time consuming fixes later on.
The original plan was to post Gus’s story with a chapter a week on the blog in the lead up to that release. Not sure how well that will work out. Especially since I now know that some of what happens will be spoilers for Firebird 6. Particularly the ending.
In retrospect, it may have been better not to have these stories take place parallel to each other. Too late now. I’m too in love with what I’m attempting to change course now.
We’ll see what the future brings. For now, I’ll start rewrites for Firebird 6 tomorrow. Hopefully, I’ll get that squared away before circling back to Gus.
Or everything will snowball and I’ll start getting up at the crack of dawn before the twins awake so I can write like a fiend.

Good luck with the writing especially around the twins.
Looking forward to both entries in the series as always.

When the ‘muse of inspiration’ strikes you have to go with the flow. Love everything you write🤗Kira and Gus story will be epic.

Firts, I trust that you can do it and I am morehhen looking forward to the result!! Now,I don’t like how final this all sounds. Is FB 6 going to be the last of the Firebird chronicles?? Like, the last last??? Pls no! Pls kindly, with a litten love in your heart, consider taking Ilona Andrews’s Kate Daniels Series with 20+ books as an example and give us many many more Kira books!! I am not nearly done with being in her head🙏 *bows head and backs away with raised hands* respectfully please..

As long as we get a Firebird this year, I’d consider anything else a very happy bonus! Thank you a thousand times for giving us this world to escape into.
And excited to learn more about the 43 with Gus’ POV. Love her already.

Release 6 and then release Gus. Hey girl! I’ll buy a short story from you. They don’t all have to be a bazillion pages.
